I don't know if it's an artifact of the guitar itself
but I find that something in E doesn't sound the same
as something in C or G. To me G is for jigs and the
like, C is for cowboy/campfire stuff, E for spanish
or blues.
Maybe it's just the voicings of the chords (especially
the 7ths ?) that makes the difference.
