A drop or two of white glue will be fine. Rather than just let the
nut go where it wants (which should be close to the right place) look
at the strings and make sure that they are centered on the fretboard
so the strings are parallel to the fretboard edges, with an equal
amount of free space on either side. Hopefully the nut will also be
flush with the edges of the fretboard, if not file down any protruding
end so it doesn't stick out.
